The 31st Goyang Kkumdori Creative Convergence Festival was held Saturday at the Goyang Flower Exhibition Hall inside Ilsan Lake Park, drawing large crowds to the event organized by the Goyang Office of Education in Gyeonggi Province and sponsored by the city of Goyang.
This year's festival was held under the theme "Dreams Connected Through RAS (Reading, Arts and Sports) — A Future Opened by Kkumdori," bringing together science, AI, culture and the arts, and sports under one roof.
A total of 136 experience booths were set up, including 91 teams from 56 elementary, middle and high schools in Goyang, as well as booths run by the office of education, the fire department, police and other outside organizations. Some 1,464 students and 168 supervising teachers took part in running the event.
A defining feature of this year's festival was that students went beyond being mere participants — they served as planners and organizers. Months before the event, students selected booth themes, prepared demonstrations and planned how to engage visitors.
Choi Yun-taek, a student from Sinil Middle School, said the hands-on science activities sparked an interest he had never found in the classroom. "It was so much fun, and I really want to come back next year," he said.
In addition to the experience booths, the festival featured student performances including a traditional Korean music orchestra, cheerleading, a band and dance acts.
