Iranian foreign minister says policy unchanged 'whether war happens or not'
Iran said its policy on the Strait of Hormuz will not change even if the United States carries out another strike against it.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with diplomats in Tehran on Sunday and said that while talk of a new war was circulating, he was already thinking beyond it. "Whether war happens or not, our policy remains unchanged," he said, according to Yonhap, citing AP and AFP.
He added that anyone who wanted to try again "would know they would get the same result as before."
Araghchi also said that "the maritime routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz and the way the strait is managed will no longer be the same as before."
The remarks appear directed at Donald Trump, who recently raised the possibility of striking Iran again.
Speaking at a midterm election campaign rally in Florida on Friday, Trump suggested another strike was possible, saying the United States could carry out "one more little 'Operation Mighty Endeavor.'"
Meanwhile, Israel holds a general election on Tuesday (local time), with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's political future on the line. Analysts say the vote, along with the US midterm elections, will in effect serve as a barometer for the direction of the conflict with Iran.
