Enterprise software firm Douzone Bizon hacked; Ministry of Science and ICT launches probe

Douzone Bizon, a provider of enterprise software services, has been hacked. The Ministry of Science and ICT has launched an investigation into the incident.

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said Monday it has formed a joint public-private investigation team to examine the scope of damage and determine the cause of the breach at Douzone Bizon. The company provides enterprise software, including enterprise resource planning, financial and accounting systems, and groupware.

Douzone Bizon filed breach reports on two separate occasions — Oct. 16 and Wednesday. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency had already requested twice that the company preserve relevant data and had been investigating the cause and extent of the damage.

On Sunday, an emergency session of the Breach Incident Review Committee was convened under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection. The committee determined the incident constituted a serious breach and agreed that a joint public-private investigation team was necessary.

The ministry ultimately decided to form the joint public-private investigation team — to be led by the ministry's director general for information security and network policy — after weighing the risk of the breach spreading to client companies and its broader potential impact.

The team comprises cybersecurity experts and systems and network specialists, in addition to officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
