Kim stumbles with even-par final round, ending bid for first win in nearly four years
Shin posts best finish among KPGA Tour players, holds onto Player of the Year points lead
Kim Si-woo and Shin Sang-hoon finished tied for fourth at the Genesis Championship, a co-sanctioned event between the KPGA Tour and the DP World Tour carrying a $4 million purse. Katsuragawa Yuto, 28, of Japan claimed the title.
Kim carded an even-par 71 on Sunday at Woojung Hills Country Club (par 71) in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, posting three birdies and three bogeys in the final round. His total of 10-under-par 274 placed him in a tie for fourth alongside Shin and others — three strokes behind champion Katsuragawa, who finished at 13-under 271.
Kim, a four-time PGA Tour winner, has not added to his victory total since the Sony Open in January 2023. He had stayed near the top of the leaderboard from the opening round, chasing his first win in roughly three years and nine months, but could not make up ground on the final day.
Kim entered the final round in a tie for third, three strokes off the lead, and struggled on the front nine. He made bogey on the fourth hole (par 4) before picking up a birdie on the fifth (par 5), only to drop shots on the seventh (par 3) and ninth (par 4). Two over through nine holes, Kim drained a birdie putt of more than 12 meters on the 12th hole (par 4) and added another from about 8 meters on the 15th (par 4), but could not close the gap.
Shin also finished at 10-under 274, tying for fourth and recording the best result among KPGA Tour players in the field.
Shin birdied the fourth hole on the final day but gave a stroke back with a bogey on the 10th (par 4). He recovered with a birdie on the 12th, then took a double bogey on the 15th. A closing birdie on the 18th (par 5) brought him back to even-par 71 for the round.
The result allowed Shin to hold onto the top spot in the KPGA Tour Genesis Player of the Year points standings. He also secured a berth in the 2027 Genesis Scottish Open, awarded to the highest-finishing KPGA Tour player at this event.
Katsuragawa, who tied the course record with an 8-under 63 in the third round, held on with an even-par final round to claim the championship.
He finished two strokes clear of joint runners-up Frederic Lacroix and Martin Couvra, both of France, who ended at 11-under 273. The victory was Katsuragawa's second on the DP World Tour, coming two and a half years after his win at the ISPS Handa Championship in April 2024. The winner's share was $680,000.
It marked the first time a non-Korean player has won the Genesis Championship in the tournament's 10-year history. The event has been co-sanctioned by the KPGA Tour and the DP World Tour since 2024.
Among Korean players, Bae Yong-jun finished tied for 13th at 8-under 276, while Lee Sang-hee was tied for 17th at 7-under 277. Park Jeong-hun and Park Il-hwan shared 22nd place at 6-under 278. Jang Yu-bin ended tied for 45th at 2-under 282, and Im Sung-jae finished tied for 54th at even-par 284.
