GS25 is moving to build a stable supply chain for rice from the South Jeolla Province and Gwangju region, with plans to expand product development and sales using locally grown produce.
GS25, the convenience store chain operated by GS Retail, held a designation ceremony for a "GS25-designated rice processing complex" at Suncheon Rice Processing Complex in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, on Monday. The company said it signed supply and sales agreements with NH Agro Fisheries & Food Trade and the Jeonnamjin, Suncheon and Hwasan rice processing complexes to provide domestically grown rice for its fresh food products in 2027.
The event follows up on an MOU on rice supply signed between GS Retail and South Jeolla Province in November last year. The agreements cover the supply and sale of about 12,000 tons of rice to be used next year in GS25 products such as kimbap and dosirak.
GS Retail will boost sales through promotional activities for rice from the South Jeolla Province and Gwangju region, while NH Agro Fisheries & Food Trade will support the smooth production and supply of agricultural products that GS Retail sells. GS Retail also plans to develop new products using locally grown produce in collaboration with each rice processing complex and identify new sources of demand.
The ceremony was attended by GS Retail convenience food merchandise Division Head Lee Gi-cheol, NH Agro Fisheries & Food Trade Executive Director Park Jin-seok, Jeonnamjin Integrated RPC Chief Kim Yong-gyeong, Suncheon Nonghyup Standing Director Seo Man-won, Haenam Hwasan Nonghyup Head Lee Hyo-sang and South Jeolla Province and Gwangju Integrated Special City K-Food Distribution Division Chief Park Sang-mi.
