Hanjin Group held its 5th Compliance Capability Enhancement Seminar for employees at the main auditorium of Hanjin Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, on Tuesday afternoon, the company announced Wednesday.

Organized by the Hanjin Kal Ethics Management Committee, the seminar drew about 100 employees from Hanjin Kal, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Hanjin and Jin Air who work in compliance, legal affairs and fair trade.

The seminar was designed to help employees share the common value of ethical management ahead of the group's integration and to prepare them to proactively address legal risks that may arise during the process. It focused particularly on key issues related to the Fair Trade Act and the Subcontracting Act, sharing practical responses to strengthen employees' compliance capabilities and establish fair trade practices.

This year, the group invited fair trade specialists from law firm Bae, Kim & Lee to lead two sessions: key Fair Trade Act issues and risk prevention related to the group integration, and preventing Subcontracting Act violations and practical responses during the integration process.

In the first session, attorney Seon Jeong-ho lectured on major Fair Trade Act issues to watch during the group integration. He reviewed recent regulatory and enforcement trends affecting large conglomerates and explained key compliance points — including improper support arrangements — that could arise during integration. He also offered practical strategies for preventing legal violations based on those regulatory trends.

In the second session, attorney Shim Ju-eun presented on preventing Subcontracting Act violations and practical responses. She introduced major legislative changes in the subcontracting sector — including the nullification of unfair special agreements and the subcontracting payment linkage system — along with the latest rulings and case law. She then outlined step-by-step compliance checkpoints from contract signing through payment and shared practical measures to prevent legal risks in transactions with partner companies.

Hanjin Group established the Hanjin Kal Ethics Management Committee in January 2021 to oversee transparent and sound ethical management across its affiliates. Since 2022, the committee has held an annual seminar to raise employees' awareness of legal compliance and strengthen their compliance capabilities.

"We plan to continue closely reviewing compliance processes throughout the group integration and to steadily strengthen employees' compliance capabilities," a Hanjin Group official said. "We will also work to establish fair trade practices built on mutual trust with our partners and to uphold transparent and responsible compliance management."

Meanwhile, Hanjin Group has been carrying out a range of social contribution activities. Last month, it supported emergency relief efforts in Nepal following severe flooding, providing 1,000 boxes of Hanjin Jeju Pure Water and 1,000 blankets, and assisting with the transport of government relief supplies.
