Attorney Kim Kyung-ho appears before Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Metropolitan Investigation Unit
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Metropolitan Investigation Unit is questioning attorney Kim Kyung-ho on Wednesday as a complainant in its probe into allegations that independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon used his influence to suppress an investigation into his daughter's alleged fabricated credentials while he served as justice minister in 2022.
Kim filed a complaint with the Korean National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters on Oct. 11, accusing Han of abuse of authority and other charges.
In November 2022, police investigating matters related to Han's daughter requested international criminal judicial assistance from prosecutors to obtain necessary materials from overseas institutions. Han was justice minister at the time. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office, however, returned the request without forwarding it to the Ministry of Justice.
Ahead of his appearance, Kim said he planned to testify about investigative requests, including obtaining approval-line records and district prosecutors office chief briefing logs from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office, as well as communications records.
On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Investigation Unit questioned representatives of civic groups that had filed complaints against Han and prosecutors involved in the earlier investigation into the fabricated-credentials allegations. By summoning complainants against Han for two consecutive days, investigators signaled that the probe is now in full swing.
