Worker in 30s attacks female colleague at station office
Victim seriously injured; police say life not in danger
Police probing motive, possible prior conflict between pair
A male subway station worker in his 30s attacked a female colleague with a knife at Wondan Station on Line 3 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, leaving her seriously injured.
Police said they received a report at around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday that a male station worker in his 30s, identified only as A, had attacked a female colleague, identified as B, with a bladed weapon inside the station office at Wondan Station in Deogyang-gu, Goyang.
B sustained serious injuries to the neck and legs, with the attack concentrated particularly on the neck. B was transported to a hospital unconscious but with a pulse, and police said the victim's life is not in danger.
Other colleagues in the station office at the time restrained A before responding officers arrested the suspect at the scene. Because the attack occurred inside the station office, no passengers were involved.
Police are investigating A on charges of attempted murder. "The suspect and the victim were colleagues working together," a police official said. "We plan to determine the specific motive and whether there was any prior conflict between the two through our investigation."
Police said they will seek an arrest warrant against A after completing their probe into the exact circumstances of the incident.
