All six South Koreans aboard a train involved in a collision near Toledo, south of Madrid, sustained only minor injuries, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Ambassador Im Su-seok said Wednesday (local time) that six South Korean nationals had been on the train and suffered light injuries, adding that authorities were continuing to check for additional casualties.
Im said the accident site was far from the city and that Spanish rescue authorities were transporting the injured from the scene by ambulance, with those who had minor injuries being sent to Urda. "A consular official and a vehicle are on their way to support our nationals' hospital treatment and transport," Im said.
The collision occurred around 9 a.m. Wednesday near Urda in the Toledo area of the Castilla-La Mancha autonomous community, when a train operated by private rail company Iryo struck one run by state carrier Renfe.
Reuters and AFP, citing regional authorities in Castilla-La Mancha, reported the confirmed death toll had reached 30. The Renfe train was carrying 397 passengers and the Iryo train 147.
