407 of 420 boxes moved; special prosecutor team separately transports 13
Ballots stored at the handball gymnasium in Seoul's Olympic Park have begun moving to a new location, 148 days after the special prosecutor team completed its on-site verification.
The National Election Commission said Thursday that ballots subjected to a public verification — conducted by the special prosecutor team from Wednesday through the early hours of Thursday — were being removed from the gymnasium and transferred to a separate warehouse in the Greater Seoul area. About 2.47 million ballots cleared the verification process.
An NEC official said 407 of the roughly 420 boxes containing the ballots were being transferred, with the remaining 13 handled separately by the special prosecutor team. Those 13 boxes hold ballots that observers flagged for additional review. The 407 boxes being moved by the NEC are to be stored at a warehouse in the Greater Seoul area under the commission's separate management.
