Jongno-gu held an appointment ceremony Thursday for its newly formed Residents' Sovereignty Committee at the Open Hall on the 10th floor of the Jongno-gu Office.
The 91-member committee, made up of community representatives and experts from various fields, will review key policies and local issues, offer guidance on the direction of district administration, and serve as a bridge between residents and the district government.
Members will work across five subcommittees — administrative and economic affairs, culture and environment, health and welfare, urban management, and safety and facilities — to discuss ways to advance district governance. They will also take part in capacity-building sessions, expert lectures and subcommittee discussions to deepen their understanding of administrative systems and sharpen their meeting facilitation skills.
District Mayor Yoo Chan-jong said he hopes the committee will become "a steadfast partner in bringing about better change for Jongno."
