Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o attended the "2026 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill" held at Sahmyook University on Friday, inspecting the district's readiness to handle complex disaster scenarios.
The drill was designed to reflect recent wildfire incidents in Nowon-gu, simulating a compound disaster in which a wildfire and a building fire break out simultaneously. The exercise aimed to thoroughly assess coordinated response capabilities among relevant agencies and the practical capacity to evacuate residents.
About 400 participants from 13 district departments and 15 related agencies took part in the exercise, which covered rapid situation alerts following simultaneous outbreaks of a wildfire and a building fire, the safe evacuation of residents and students, and the operation of rescue and emergency medical systems.
Upon arriving at the scene, Seo reviewed the operation of the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and the Integrated Support Headquarters, inspected the rescue system and encouraged those participating in the drill.
"In a disaster situation, rapid dissemination of information and close cooperation among relevant agencies are the key to protecting the lives and safety of residents," Seo said. "We will do our utmost to build Nowon into a safe city where residents can feel secure, backed by thorough training and an effective response system."
