Daegu city will conduct winter safety inspections at private construction sites across the city through Dec. 16 to prevent accidents caused by cold snaps, heavy snowfall and strong winds, the city government announced Monday.

The inspections will be carried out jointly by city and district officials alongside industry experts, focusing on safety management practices and vulnerabilities linked to extreme weather conditions.

Key areas under review include winter safety management plans, availability of snow-removal equipment, measures to prevent pipe freezing and fires, concrete pouring and curing management, and precautions against asphyxiation in enclosed spaces.

Inspectors will also closely examine the structural safety of temporary facilities and retaining structures against strong winds and heavy snow, as well as the condition of monitoring instruments.

Where on-site corrective action is possible, improvements will be required immediately. If serious hazards are found, the city said it will move swiftly to prohibit use of the affected areas and carry out detailed inspections, repairs and reinforcement.

Kim Byeong-hwan, head of Daegu's Architecture and Housing Bureau, said winter construction sites face a wide range of risks as weather conditions and site environments shift. "Through joint public-private inspections, we will closely examine vulnerabilities and promptly address any shortcomings to ensure a safe working environment at construction sites," Kim said.
