Events include a 6-kilometer bicycle parade at Jeju Citizen Welfare Town Square and a 52-kilometer non-competitive Jeju Cycling ride departing from Gujwa Sports Park
The Ministry of Interior and Safety and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will jointly hold the 2026 Bicycle Day festival Saturday and Sunday at Jeju Citizen Welfare Town Square and Gujwa Sports Park, under the theme "Two Wheels Connecting the Future, a Greener Jeju!"
The annual event, held every year since 2009, is designed to raise awareness of cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transportation, promote carbon neutrality in daily life and encourage more people to ride bicycles regularly.
On the first day, Saturday, an opening ceremony will take place at Jeju Citizen Welfare Town Square, followed by a group bicycle parade of about 6 kilometers around the venue.
Alongside this, organizers have prepared a range of activities including an energy-conversion experience using bicycle-powered eco-generators, a cycling course for practical riding practice, bicycle safety education on proper traffic culture, and free bicycle inspections and repairs to support regular cycling.
Family-friendly programming includes a children's drawing contest, a novelty bicycle playground and a bicycle helmet decorating activity.
On the second day, Sunday, the Jeju Cycling ride will depart from Gujwa Sports Park and travel along Haemaji Coastal Road to Songnangpo Port in Seongsan-eup and back — a non-competitive route of about 52 kilometers taking in the scenic coastal landscapes of Woljeong-ri, Sehwa and Hado.
Also on Sunday, Jeju Citizen Welfare Town Square will host the Kids Bike Championship, a children's cycling event using educational bicycles, and the Ssingsing Bicycle Children's Song Festival, open to children who pass a preliminary audition.
The festival is open to all, and details on participation and registration are available through the official website or the event secretariat.
Jin Myeong-gi, director general of the Ministry of Interior and Safety's Autonomous Innovation Office, said cycling is "a practical way to pursue carbon neutrality in everyday life and a valuable means of improving public health," adding that the ministry hopes the event will help many people experience the eco-friendly value of cycling and create meaningful memories with their families in Jeju.
