Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Jo Yu-jin attended the "Love Kimchi Fair" held Wednesday morning at Yeouido Park.
The event, organized by the Korea Financial Investment Association, raised about 390 million won ($291,000) in donations. Participants made a total of 80,000 kilograms of kimjang kimchi. The donations and kimchi will be delivered to neighbors in need through ChildFund Korea, a child welfare organization.
Jo joined roughly 1,000 executives and employees from 86 financial investment firms to make kimchi, lending a hand to help vulnerable residents get through the winter.
"When kimchi prices soar, people call it 'geumchi' — gold kimchi," Jo said. "I think the kimchi we are making today with the Korea Financial Investment Association is truly 'geumchi' in the fullest sense, filled with love." Jo added that Yeongdeungpo-gu would continue spreading warmth and a spirit of sharing throughout the district alongside the association.
