Resident assaults delivery worker for stopping elevator at every floor

A resident who assaulted a delivery worker for stopping an apartment elevator at every floor has been booked by police.

The Anyang Manan Police Station said Monday it had booked a resident in his 70s, identified only as A, on charges of assault and obstruction of business, and a delivery worker in his 30s, identified as B, on assault charges. Both are under investigation.

A is accused of shoving B inside an elevator at an apartment complex in Anyang-dong, Manan-gu, Anyang, at around 10:40 a.m. on May 26.

Police said A grew angry after B stopped the elevator on multiple floors to make deliveries, and the assault occurred during the ensuing confrontation.

A also claimed he had been assaulted, leading police to book B on assault charges as well.

Neither person was seriously injured.

Such conflicts have grown more frequent as parcel delivery volumes continue to rise.

Earlier this year, a notice posted inside an apartment elevator drew wide attention online. It asked delivery workers not to occupy the elevator for extended periods during morning rush hours, from 8 to 10 a.m., citing persistent complaints from residents.

An apartment complex in Incheon also sparked controversy after posting a notice saying it would charge delivery workers a 100,000-won ($67) deposit and a monthly fee of 33,000 won ($22) as conditions for issuing access keys to the building's main entrance. The notice also included a clause prohibiting workers from pressing multiple elevator buttons at once.
