Fescaro, a company specializing in integrated vehicle security platforms, said CEO Hong Seok-min presented on generative AI-based vehicle hacking threats and countermeasures at an automotive cybersecurity policy seminar organized by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Safety Research Institute (KATRI).
Hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, on May 27, the seminar was designed to help industry stakeholders better understand the Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) certification regime and to discuss emerging security threats posed by advances in AI technology. Attendees included officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, as well as mobility security representatives from Tesla Korea and Fescaro.
In his presentation, Hong introduced vehicle hacking attempts using generative AI and security vulnerabilities that can arise in aftermarket environments. He also outlined AI-based automated vulnerability analysis technology and related case studies, saying the automotive industry faces a growing need to address attack methods that exploit generative AI.
Hong also shared an overview of domestic and international automotive cybersecurity responses, key trends in the global industry, and potential vehicle intrusion scenarios going forward.
He said that as vehicles become connected to a wide range of external services and communication networks, security management must extend beyond the vehicle itself to cover the entire external connectivity environment, including aftermarket devices. He also said the security testing and operational expertise accumulated in the automotive industry needs to be applied more broadly across various mobility sectors.
Fescaro is currently pursuing an AI transformation strategy that integrates AI across its vehicle cybersecurity engineering operations. Building on its CSMS portal — developed to meet international regulation UN R155 and international standard ISO/SAE 21434 — the company plans to expand AI adoption throughout the security engineering process, from requirements analysis to threat analysis and risk assessment (TARA).
As autonomous driving and connected car adoption grows, software accounts for an increasing share of vehicle systems and cyberattack vectors are multiplying. Fescaro said it is working to advance its vehicle cybersecurity framework by leveraging AI-based automation technology.
