Korea Maritime and Ocean University expands Korea-China maritime education, research and industry cooperation

Korea Maritime and Ocean University has launched a concerted push to expand global maritime education and industry cooperation at China's major international maritime and port events.

A delegation led by university President Ryu Dong-geun visited Ningbo and Shanghai from May 27 to 30, attending an international maritime forum, holding discussions on cooperation with global maritime organizations and calling on leading Chinese maritime universities. The visit aimed to strengthen the university's global leadership within the international maritime education network and broaden the foundation for Korea-China cooperation in maritime education, research and industry.

The delegation's schedule included attending the 2026 Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum, visiting the Korean Register's China regional headquarters and calling on Shanghai Maritime University.

President Ryu attended the 2026 Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum in Ningbo on May 28 as an officially invited speaker and delivered a keynote address. The forum is co-hosted by the Zhejiang provincial government and Zhejiang Port Group and is a leading international event in the maritime and port sector, drawing major institutions and experts from around the world in shipping, logistics and law.

Speaking on "The Role of the International Commercial Court for Maritime Affairs and Korea Maritime and Ocean University," Ryu outlined Busan's international maritime law competitiveness, the direction of South Korea's maritime industry development, and the university's role and vision amid a shifting global landscape in maritime law, ports and logistics.

The delegation then visited Shanghai Maritime University to discuss expanding exchange student programs, short-term training, joint research and international co-educational programs.
