A man in his 40s was removed from a polling station in Sejong on Wednesday after refusing to deposit his marked ballot and instead demanding that election officials verify it, police said.
The Sejong City Election Commission and police said the man, identified only as A, attempted to show his completed ballot to nearby election workers at a polling station in Dajeong-dong, Sejong, rather than placing it directly into the ballot box. The incident occurred around 7 a.m.
A reportedly said words to the effect of "didn't the president do the same?" and asked officials to confirm that he had marked his ballot correctly.
When election commission officials refused to examine the marked ballot, A remained inside the polling station for about 30 minutes in a standoff. Police who responded to a call then ordered him to leave, and he exited the premises.
The incident has been formally reported to the 112 emergency line. The election commission sent A home and said it would review the circumstances further before deciding how to respond.
