Former Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo said Thursday that the People Power Party "fought well despite a difficult environment" in the June 3 local elections.
Writing on his social media account, Hong said he expected "the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction to assert itself," but expressed hope that the Jang Dong-hyeok leadership would "handle the situation wisely and establish orthodox conservatism through internal reform."
He added that while the government and ruling party had won in terms of seat numbers, it was hard to call the result a landslide. "I hope they read public sentiment carefully and pursue inclusive politics," he said.
On the Daegu mayoral race, Hong said he was "worried about Daegu's next 100 years" and urged mayor-elect Choo Kyung-ho to "overcome the challenges ahead and do well."
