The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) will co-host a joint admissions information session with KAIST, the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) on June 13 at 1 p.m. at Dasan Hall on the second floor of the Oryong Building.
At the session, GIST plans to share practical admissions information for the 2027 academic year, covering key selection criteria, the student profile it seeks, curriculum offerings, its interdisciplinary and research-focused learning environment, scholarship and student support programs, and post-graduation career paths and research outcomes.
The event will also feature Q&A sessions and individual consultations for students interested in any of the four science and technology institutes, aiming to deepen their understanding of the admissions process and help them map out a personalized application strategy.
GIST has been strengthening its AI research capabilities through a high-performance computing and AI infrastructure (HPC-AI). In the semiconductor field, it plans to run industry-oriented programs — including the "GIST-Arm School," a curriculum developed in partnership with global companies through its Semiconductor Convergence Technology Institute. Building on these efforts, GIST will establish a dedicated "AI College" to systematically advance an AI transformation (AX) curriculum tied to industry needs.
From the 2027 academic year, GIST will expand its intake to approximately 330 students — up 100 from the previous year — as part of a broader push to develop talent in advanced science and technology fields including AI, semiconductors and biotech.
A contract-based Department of Semiconductor Engineering, operated in partnership with Samsung Electronics to build core semiconductor and convergence technology competencies and cultivate industry-ready specialists, will admit students outside the standard enrollment quota.
Students admitted to the Department of Semiconductor Engineering will complete a combined bachelor's-master's program before graduating and moving into careers at Samsung Electronics.
