People Power Party candidate Lee Geun-su won the Daegu Buk-gu district mayor race in Wednesday's nationwide local elections.
In a victory statement Thursday, Lee expressed deep gratitude to residents who supported him. "I offer my heartfelt thanks to the people of Buk-gu who believed in me and made their choice," he said.
He said the result was not a personal victory. "This election outcome is not a triumph for Lee Geun-su the individual — it is a great victory for all 420,000 residents of Buk-gu who yearn to revive the stagnant local economy and open a new chapter of growth for the district," he said.
Lee said the real work was only beginning. "The election is over, but my true work starts now," he said, adding that he would channel all the administrative experience and capabilities he built at Daegu City Hall and as deputy district mayor of Buk-gu into developing the community.
"With proven ability, I will renew Buk-gu and double the district's value," Lee said. "I will prove my commitments not with words but with concrete action and results. I will run alongside the people of Buk-gu, working up a sweat together."
