Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Gil-sung Returns to Work After Reelection: 'I Will Repay Residents' Trust With Results'

"Everyone, I really missed you."

Kim Gil-sung, who won reelection as Jung-gu district mayor in the June 3 local elections, returned to work Thursday. It was his first day back after 40 days away, following the suspension of his official duties when he registered as a preliminary candidate on April 29. That morning, Kim arrived at the district office to cheers and applause from staff gathered in the plaza and lobby.

Kim has now been chosen by Jung-gu residents for both the 8th and 9th terms of elected district governance.

Greeting staff, Kim expressed his gratitude, saying, "Over the past four years, you have been a steady source of strength as we worked together to bring change to Jung-gu."

He then held a tea meeting with senior officials to share residents' voices he had heard on the campaign trail and to outline the direction of district administration for the 9th term. Kim urged staff to "carefully review the 9th-term campaign pledges so that we can reflect residents' expectations in how we run the district."

Jung-gu plans to finalize implementation plans for its key pledges ahead of the 9th term's official launch in July, aiming for stable yet swift district administration.

Under the 9th term, the district will draw on a newly established "Jung-gu Balanced Development Fund" to significantly expand social infrastructure — including a large-scale public library and public parking facilities — designed to strengthen the district's long-term competitiveness.

The district also plans to expand programs supporting residents' daily lives: public rental housing for youth, a preferential savings account program, supplemental health insurance for senior citizens, a dedicated call-taxi service, a comprehensive pet support center, and cervical cancer vaccine support.

"If the 8th term laid the groundwork for change in Jung-gu, the 9th term will be the time for residents to feel that change firsthand," Kim said. "I am grateful to the residents who believed in and looked forward to Jung-gu's development, and I will repay that trust with a greater future for Jung-gu."
