MOU signed to verify cooling performance and operational reliability through May 2029, linked to Ministry of Science and ICT project
S-OIL announced Thursday that it has signed an MOU with Sungkyunkwan University's Supercomputing Center and Global Standard Technology (GST) to pilot and advance immersion cooling technology for AI data centers.
Sungkyunkwan University's Supercomputing Center holds the largest GPU resources among domestic universities, while GST specializes in gas purification and temperature control equipment for semiconductor manufacturing.
The three organizations will collaborate on immersion cooling technology for next-generation sustainable data centers, pursuing an integrated pilot that links immersion cooling fluid, cooling equipment and real-world high-performance computing environments.
Immersion cooling tests will be conducted in a high-heat GPU server environment at Sungkyunkwan University's Supercomputing Center. S-OIL will supply and analyze its immersion cooling fluid "S-OIL e-Cooling Solution" and provide technical advisory services. The Supercomputing Center will furnish the GPU servers and testing environment, while GST will operate the immersion cooling equipment and carry out data analysis.
Through the pilot, the partners aim to verify the cooling performance, stability and operational reliability of immersion cooling technology under actual AI and high-performance computing conditions, and to establish the commercial viability of next-generation data center thermal management solutions.
The collaboration is also linked to a Ministry of Science and ICT project awarded to Sungkyunkwan University's Supercomputing Center — "Development of Computing Resource-Intensive AI Application Technology." The related pilot and research will run through May 2029.
