Off-duty officer booked on groping charges after bar incident

A police officer in his 20s has been booked on charges of groping a female employee at a bar.

The Cheongju Heungdeok Police Station booked a patrol officer in his 20s, identified only as A, on charges of forcible indecent assault. He is attached to the North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency and remains under investigation.

A is accused of groping a female employee, identified as B, while drinking at a bar in Gangseo-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, at around 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

B called 112 at the time, reporting that a customer had touched her. Officers who responded confirmed A's identity and referred the case to the Heungdeok Police Station.

"This is an ongoing investigation, and we are unable to confirm the details," a police official said.

A has been removed from duty. Once the investigation concludes, authorities plan to launch an internal affairs review to determine the appropriate level of disciplinary action.
