Gangwon Land becomes first Korean resort to earn eco-label certification across all accommodations

Gangwon Land announced Friday that it had become the first resort operator in South Korea to earn the Ministry of Environment's official eco-label certification across all of its accommodation facilities.

The eco-label certification regime is administered by the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, an agency under the Ministry of Environment. It is awarded to products and services that demonstrate superior environmental performance throughout their life cycle, including reducing pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions and cutting resource and energy consumption.

Gangwon Land secured the certification for its Grand Hotel in December 2023 and for the Hi1 Condo in March 2025, before adding the Hi1 Palace Hotel on May 18. The Palace Hotel was evaluated in three areas: resource recycling improvement, energy conservation and reduction of local environmental pollution.

Gangwon Land said it would launch a range of initiatives to mark both the latest certification and World Environment Day on Friday, aiming to support the government's green consumption policy and promote eco-friendly practices among customers.

Throughout June — designated as "Green Consumption Week" by the Ministry of Environment — the resort will hold a special event offering Hi1 Resort accommodation vouchers as prizes in a draw open to customers who verify purchases of green products.

In addition, Gangwon Land decided to extend its ongoing Green Card Eco Money point accumulation and discount event to the Palace Hotel, adding it to the existing lineup of the Grand Hotel and Hi1 Condo. The expansion is intended to encourage visitors to participate in eco-friendly consumption throughout the resort.

Gangwon Land also plans to join the government-hosted "2026 Environment Day Ceremony and Korea Climate Action Launch" and take part in the Korea Climate Action Preparatory Committee, as part of broader efforts to raise public awareness of eco-friendly culture.

"We will continue to support the government's eco-friendly policies and fulfill our role as a public institution."
