Get Up to 20,000 Won Back in Onnuri Gift Vouchers at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market

Yeongdeungpo-gu (district mayor Choi Ho-kwon) will hold an "Onnuri Gift Voucher Refund Event" at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market, near Yeongdeungpo Market Station on subway Line 5, from Wednesday through Sunday to ease the burden of rising living costs and inject new energy into the traditional market.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, aims to boost consumption of domestically produced seafood and revitalize traditional markets by refunding a portion of seafood purchases in Onnuri gift vouchers.

With 240 traditional markets participating nationwide, Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market was selected as a qualifying venue based on a comprehensive assessment of visitor numbers and the level of participation by its merchants' association.

A total of 15 stores inside the market are taking part. Visitors can identify participating stores by the notices posted at each storefront.

Shoppers who purchase domestic or ocean-caught seafood at participating stores during the event period will receive up to 30 percent of their purchase amount back in Onnuri gift vouchers.

Refund amounts are tiered: purchases of 34,000 won or more but under 67,000 won receive a 10,000 won refund, while purchases of 67,000 won or more receive 20,000 won. The maximum refund per person is 20,000 won.

Shoppers seeking a refund should bring their purchase receipt and a valid ID to the refund booth set up inside the market. Only legally valid receipts are accepted — informal receipts do not qualify.

The event may end early once the allocated budget runs out, so early visits are advised.

The district is also pushing ahead with facility modernization efforts to further energize the traditional market. Planned improvements include installing additional arcade roofing to shelter shoppers from rain and snow, upgrading public restroom hygiene management, and building an IoT-based electrical fire prevention system — all focused on safety and visitor convenience.

"I hope this refund event becomes a win-win occasion where consumers get real value for their money and merchants gain a boost," district mayor Choi Ho-kwon said.
