Israel launched a retaliatory strike against Iran on Monday.
The Israeli military said in a statement that it had struck military targets in central and western Iran, according to Reuters.
Iranian state television reported multiple explosions in three cities — the capital Tehran, the northwestern city of Tabriz and the central city of Isfahan. Blasts were also heard near Karaj, west of Tehran.
The strikes came within hours of Iran firing missiles at Israel on Sunday. Iran launched the attack after accusing Israel of violating a truce agreement by striking Hezbollah strongholds on the southern outskirts of Beirut in southern Lebanon. It was the first time Iran had struck Israeli territory since a truce between the United States and Iran took effect on April 8.
The Israeli military said Iran fired a total of 11 missiles, all of which Israeli air defenses intercepted. No direct casualties were reported from the missile strike, though some residents were injured while evacuating.
Fires caused by debris from the intercepted missiles were also reported.
Earlier, the Israeli military had vowed to retaliate, saying Iran had "made a grave mistake by once again choosing the path of terror."
