Israel halts strikes on Iran but vows to press on against Hezbollah

Israel has decided to halt its airstrikes against Iran but will continue military operations against Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group in Lebanon, sources said.

Reuters, citing an Israeli official, reported Monday that Israel had decided to stop its airstrikes on Iran.

A separate Israeli official told Hebrew-language media that the decision came at the request of US President Donald Trump.

The official added that Israel would not halt its offensive against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and said the current phase of hostilities with Iran appeared to be winding down.

In practice, the Israeli military made no additional announcements Monday beyond the two airstrikes against Iran carried out overnight.

Iran's military declared a halt to its operations against Israel on the same day — roughly an hour after Trump posted on social media demanding that Israel and Iran immediately stop firing.

The Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, which coordinates Iran's armed forces, said in a statement carried by Iranian media that it had "inflicted a painful response on the Zionist regime" and declared a cessation of Iranian military operations.

The statement warned, however, that if aggression and hostile acts by enemies continued — including in southern Lebanon — Iran would respond "with far stronger and more overwhelming measures than before."

Meanwhile, Trump posted on Truth Social calling on both Israel and Iran to prevent the conflict from escalating further.

In a follow-up post, he said both sides were seeking an immediate truce.

Trump said final negotiations toward peace would proceed "unless impeded by ignorance and stupidity," and added that the blockade targeting Iran would remain in full force until a final agreement was reached.

Trump's remarks came as Iran and Israel exchanged missile strikes for the first time since a truce in April, marking a renewed escalation of the conflict.
