Kang Ki-yoon's transition committee launches in Changwon, sets 3-week agenda

The transition committee preparing for the launch of the ninth directly elected Changwon city administration officially got under way Tuesday. Mayor-elect Kang Ki-yoon completed the appointment of committee members and began in earnest reviewing city affairs and fleshing out his campaign pledges.

The committee was formed with 15 members in accordance with the city ordinance governing the operation of the Changwon mayoral transition committee. Jo Cheong-rae, a former special adviser to the People Power Party leader, was named chair, while Song Byeong-gwon, who served as head of the campaign's overall planning team, was appointed vice chair. A separate advisory panel was also formed to supplement the committee's expertise.

The committee established four subcommittees to review city administration across all areas: planning and coordination, economy and industry, residential welfare and happiness, and safety, construction and public health. Kim Jin-ho, a former advertising director at the Gyeongnam Sinmun, and Park Nam-yong, a former Gyeongnam provincial assembly member, were named as spokespersons. The committee will also operate a Special Committee for Civic Participation and a Special Committee for Public Communication to channel residents' views into city policy.

On Tuesday afternoon, the committee began receiving briefings from the main city hall's departments and bureaus, with affiliated agencies and project offices to follow, as it works to assess the current state of city administration. The committee also plans to visit key project sites to check on progress.

The committee will focus on reviewing the feasibility of campaign pledges made during the election and developing fiscal and legal plans for their implementation. It will also work to establish the direction for major pending issues that stalled during the mayoral vacancy and to ensure continuity in city administration.

"We have assembled the transition committee with people who have specialized expertise and hands-on experience in their respective fields," Kang said. "We will faithfully reflect the views of residents and, from the launch of the ninth elected administration, deliver results that citizens can feel."
