The South Jeolla-Gwangju Great Transformation Planning Committee — the transition body for South Jeolla Province-Gwangju Integrated Special City President-elect Min Hyung-bae — announced additional appointments Tuesday, naming advisers, consultants, spokespersons and secretariat staff.
Assembly member Lee Gwang-jae (Hanam-gap, Gyeonggi Province) will serve as senior adviser. Named as special advisers were Heo Seok, former mayor of Suncheon, for decentralization; Joo Eun-gi, former Samsung Electronics vice president, for the economy; Lee Byeong-taek, honorary professor at Chonnam National University, for industry; Yang In-sang, professor of physics at Ewha Womans University, for science and technology; and Kim Seung-hwi, former presiding judge at the Gwangju District Court, for legal affairs.
Joo Jeong-min, a professor at Chonnam National University, and Kim Jun-ha, a professor at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, will co-chair the advisory committee.
Eight special aides were also appointed: Kim Su-hyeong, a Chonnam National University professor, for AI; Jeong Gwang-bok, head of the Autonomous Driving Technology Development Innovation Project, for mobility; Jeong Eun-ho, former head of KEPCO's Economic and Management Research Institute, for energy; Hong Won-pyo, former Samsung Electronics president, for semiconductors; Kim Hyeong-seok, a professor at Chonnam National University's medical school in Hwasun, for biohealth; Kim Myeong-jung, former EBS president, for cultural content; Park Sang-hyeon, CEO of Cymert, for digital affairs; and Kim Seon-il, a member of the Presidential Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Communities, for agriculture, fisheries and livestock.
In the president-elect's secretariat, Yun Ju-sik, a former National Assembly aide, was named chief of staff. Kim Gi-bong, also a former Assembly aide, will head public communications; Gwangju City Council member Park Su-gi will lead the scheduling team; and Shin Jun-seop, CEO of Atomos, will head the public relations team.
Hwang Pung-nyeon, former head of a cultural foundation, and Kim Gwang-ran, a former Gwangju City Council member, were named transition committee spokespersons. Yang Eun-suk, an attorney, and Lee Jeong-u, former head of the Together Gwangju Research Institute, were appointed spokespersons for the president-elect.
A committee official said the appointees would support preparations for the launch of the integrated special city, provide advice and communication on key issues, and assist the president-elect in his duties. Further appointments — including special committee members — would be announced soon, the official added.
