Choi Yu-cheol launches transition committee ahead of Uiseong-gun's new administration

Choi Yu-cheol, the incoming head of Uiseong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province, launched the transition committee for the ninth directly elected county administration on Sunday, holding an inauguration ceremony at the committee's office inside the Uiseong General Gymnasium.

The committee is tasked with supporting the handover of county affairs ahead of the new administration's launch on July 1, and with reviewing key pending issues and plans to fulfill campaign pledges.

The committee is organized into five subcommittees covering administration, culture and arts and tourism, welfare and public health, industry and the economy, and construction. Each subcommittee will review the county's organizational structure, budget and major projects, and map out the direction of county governance going forward.

Kim Man-yong, a former North Gyeongsang Province lawmaker, was appointed committee chair, and Jeong Gyu-seok, a former head of Uiseong-gun's general affairs division, was named vice chair.

The committee comprises 15 members, including Kim Tae-won, a former director of the urban environment bureau, and Jang Yun-a, a former chair of the women's organizations council. Six Uiseong-gun civil servants have been seconded to serve as administrative staff.

"I will approach this as the first step in responsibly preparing for county governance — carefully examining administrative realities and fiscal conditions to translate campaign pledges into workable policy," Choi said.
