"We will listen to residents' voices and lead Damyang into a new era of development"
Park Jong-won, the incoming Damyang-gun county chief, has formed the "46th Damyang County Chief Transition Committee" to prepare for the successful launch of the ninth directly elected county administration and to set out a vision for the county's future.
Park's team held a signboard unveiling ceremony and launch event Wednesday at the transition committee office on the second floor of the Damyang-gun Agricultural Chamber of Commerce. The committee will conduct its official activities over the next 15 days.
Cha Sang-jun, a former head of the county's planning division with extensive experience in county administration and a strong grasp of local issues, was appointed transition committee chair.
Immediately after the launch, the committee began receiving briefings on the current state of each county department and major ongoing projects, and will work to build a roadmap for fulfilling the ninth administration's campaign pledges.
The committee plans to coordinate and systematize implementation plans for the key campaign pledges Park emphasized during the election: early achievement of a "1 trillion won (approximately $659 million) budget era" through Damyang-led growth, development of an AI-based smart agriculture pilot city, securing new growth engines and reviving the local economy, and revitalizing cultural tourism where tradition and the future coexist.
The committee will also focus on gathering candid feedback from residents and laying the groundwork for community unity by bridging divisions that emerged during the election.
"This transition committee will go beyond a simple transfer of power and serve as a solid foundation for preparing Damyang's next 100 years," Park said. He asked committee members to "carefully review county administration issues and systematize measures to revitalize the everyday economy" during the roughly 10-day period.
