Samsung Heavy Industries announced Wednesday that it held a formal contract signing ceremony for the US Delfin floating liquefied natural gas production facility (FLNG) project.
The ceremony took place Tuesday in Washington, D.C., marking the official launch of construction on Delfin FLNG Unit 1 — a $2.9 billion (about 4.3 trillion won) contract that Samsung Heavy Industries disclosed June 2. The event also celebrated the completion of the final investment decision (FID) for the first offshore FLNG project in US history.
The Delfin FLNG project is expected to open the door to broader expansion of offshore FLNG development in the United States — a positive development for Samsung Heavy Industries, which holds an unrivaled competitive position in the global FLNG market. The company is already in negotiations with Delfin LNG over contracts for Units 2 and 3, which the US developer is pursuing in sequence, and additional orders are considered likely.
"The signing ceremony brought together world-class partners who showed their full confidence in Samsung Heavy Industries' FLNG technology and project execution capabilities," Vice Chairman Choi Sung-an said. "We will prove our worth through the highest quality and strict adherence to delivery schedules."
