LS EcoEnergy supplies communication cables for Hyundai Rotem rail vehicles

LS EcoEnergy said Thursday that its Vietnam production subsidiary, LSCV, has made its first delivery of communication cables for rail vehicles to Hyundai Rotem. The cables will be used in hydrogen tram vehicles for urban rail systems in Daejeon and Ulsan.

Communication cables for rail vehicles are critical components that link onboard control units and communication systems to transmit real-time operating data. Because they directly affect the safety and reliability of rail vehicles, the parts must meet stringent quality and durability standards. Supply chains in the rail sector also tend to revolve around proven vendors, making an established delivery record a key competitive advantage in its own right.

The deal gives LS EcoEnergy its first supply credentials in the specialty cable segment for rail applications. The company said it expects more opportunities to join follow-on projects as Hyundai Rotem expands its domestic and overseas rail business.

LSCV has been shifting its product portfolio toward higher-value offerings, with a focus on raising the share of specialty cables for rail and industrial infrastructure. Vietnam's government is also pushing large-scale rail infrastructure projects — including a north-south high-speed rail line and urban transit networks — which is expected to drive demand for related specialty cables. LS EcoEnergy said it plans to use LSCV as a base to strengthen its push into the Southeast Asian rail market.

"This supply is significant as the first result of entering Hyundai Rotem's supply chain and breaking into the specialty cable market for rail applications," an LS EcoEnergy official said. "We will step up our efforts to target the global rail infrastructure market."
