Seoul City Council's 11th Assembly opens final regular session

The 336th regular session of the Seoul Metropolitan Council — the final gathering of the 11th Assembly — opened Wednesday and will run through June 24, a span of 15 days.

The session will take up several key agenda items, including a proposed amendment to the Han River Bus operating project MOU that the Environment and Water Resources Committee rejected during a special session. The council will also conduct an in-depth review of fiscal settlement approval proposals to verify that budget execution by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education complied with relevant laws and the purposes for which the Assembly granted approval.

In her opening address, Assembly Speaker Choi Ho-jeong called on the Seoul education office to take active steps to reform the system governing this year's local education fiscal transfer grants, which exceed 80 trillion won (approximately $52.5 billion), to prevent wasteful management. She also addressed the incoming 12th Seoul Metropolitan Council and the 9th elected city administration, set to launch July 1, urging them to "put the interests of all citizens ahead of those of any particular group, choose tomorrow's values over today's praise, and lead Seoul's future with wisdom."
