Complex houses bowling alley, roller rink, library, performance hall and shared offices; Boseong-gun Council also moves in
Boseong-gun, the South Jeolla Province county known for its green tea fields and Beolgyo cockles, has opened a multipurpose cultural complex housing leisure facilities, a performance hall and a library.
The county built the complex, named Boseong Haengbokmaru, in front of the county office building, billing it as the centerpiece of a sweeping upgrade to residents' cultural, leisure and welfare environment.
The opening ceremony on Friday drew about 1,000 people, including Boseong-gun County Chief Kim Cheol-woo, National Assembly member Moon Geum-ju (Goheung, Boseong, Jangheung and Gangjin), Boseong-gun Council Speaker Kim Gyeong-yeol, South Jeolla Provincial Assembly members Kim Jae-cheol and Lee Dong-hyeon, heads of local institutions and civic organizations, and residents.
The complex was built at a total project cost of 41 billion won (about $26.9 million), with a total floor area of 16,160 square meters across two below-ground and seven above-ground floors.
It brings together the Boseong-gun Council chambers, the 190-seat Boseong Sori Performance Hall, a shared childcare space, a small library and a permanent exhibition hall — alongside a 14-lane bowling alley, a roller rink and a smart gymnasium.
The complex also includes shared offices, meeting rooms and resident-run community spaces. A 220-space parking lot serving both above- and below-ground levels is expected to ease chronic parking shortages in Boseong-eup's downtown area and help revitalize local commerce.
To mark the opening, the first-floor permanent exhibition hall and the third-floor community space are hosting a folk-painting exhibition alongside a display of award-winning entries from a Boseong-gun tourism photography contest, giving visitors a range of things to see.
The county named the complex Haengbokmaru — meaning a place where residents can enjoy culture, leisure and happiness in their daily lives. The bowling alley will be operated under a private management contract.
"Boseong Haengbokmaru will be a happy space where our residents can communicate, raise children and enjoy healthy leisure together," County Chief Kim said.
Boseong-gun is also wrapping up construction of the Beolgyo Multipurpose Cultural Center in Hoejeong-ri, Beolgyo-eup, with completion scheduled for July.
That center will span 10,533 square meters across three above-ground floors and will house a national sports center with a swimming pool, a lifestyle culture center, a small library, a small movie theater and a child-care center.
