Hanul Unit 5 returns to full power after scheduled maintenance

Hanul Unit 5, a pressurized water reactor with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts located in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province, has resumed power generation after completing scheduled preventive maintenance.

According to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Hanul Nuclear Power Plant headquarters, Unit 5 entered scheduled maintenance on Feb. 26 and resumed generation on June 12, reaching 100 percent output at around 4 p.m. that day.

During the maintenance period, the unit underwent fuel replacement, safety-related equipment inspections and various other checks to improve the reliability of its power generation systems. Safety was also verified through statutory inspections required under the Nuclear Safety Act.

A Hanul headquarters official said the plant would "do its utmost to ensure safe nuclear operations" and pledged to "immediately and transparently disclose any unusual developments at the facility."
