Yeongcheon Bohyeonsan Starlight Festival committee visits Busan festival to sharpen planning

The Yeongcheon Bohyeonsan Starlight Festival Committee visited the Eobang Festival along Gwangalli Beach in Busan on June 12 to study its operations and gather ideas for their own event.

The visit was organized to explore ways to improve the 23rd Yeongcheon Bohyeonsan Starlight Festival, scheduled for October.

The Eobang Festival is one of Busan's signature cultural tourism festivals, centered on "eobang," a communal tradition shared by naval forces and fishing communities during the Joseon Dynasty.

Committee members toured the festival grounds, examining crowd flow, resident participation programs, food vendor operations, safety management systems and tourist facilities.

The group showed particular interest in programs run directly by local residents and in content that highlighted regional character, exchanging a range of views on how such elements could be applied to their own festival.

Committee Chair Kim Seon-ok said the visit reinforced the importance of locally rooted content and community involvement. "We will do our best to gather diverse opinions and create a Starlight Festival that is more appealing and polished," she said.

The 23rd Starlight Festival is set to run from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11 in the Bohyeonsan area, featuring hands-on programs, performances and exhibitions centered on astronomy and space.
