Honam University marks 48th anniversary with vision for AI-integrated education

Honam University held a ceremony Sunday at its campus gymnasium in Gwangju to mark its 48th anniversary, sharing a vision for the future centered on educational innovation, stronger AI-integrated curricula and the development of regional talent.

Some 400 guests attended the event, including Board Chairman Park Sang-geon, President Park Sang-chul, Alumni Association President Kim Chang-seung and members of the board of directors, along with faculty, staff and students.

In his commemorative address, Board Chairman Park Sang-geon said the 48-year milestone was "not merely an accumulation of years, but a great legacy forged through the founder's fierce passion and deep dedication to education, and the sweat of countless alumni and members." He urged the university community to "build a foundation from which the next generation can soar even higher, through an indomitable spirit of challenge and ceaseless innovation."

President Park Sang-chul said the 48th anniversary marked "a meaningful turning point at which Honam University reaffirms its commitment to a new future." He added that the university would devote its full efforts to cultivating talent suited to the AI era through cooperative partnerships with other regional universities.

At the ceremony, Kang Eun-ju, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, received a 30-year long-service award. Han Seon, a professor in the Department of Media and Communication, and Kim Dong-hee, a manager in the Student Support Team, were recognized as outstanding faculty and staff members.
