'My face on a security?' Korea Securities Depository museum launches children's education program

The Korea Securities Depository's Securities Museum Busan branch announced Monday it will run a weekend education program titled "Hello! The World Securities Made" every Saturday from July 4 to Aug. 29, targeting families with young children and elementary school students.

The program was designed to give family visitors who find it difficult to visit the museum on weekday mornings a chance to participate. It is linked to the museum's permanent exhibition, "The World Securities Made."

Participants will hear age-appropriate commentary from a professional docent and then complete an activity sheet covering basic concepts of securities and economics. The sheet includes missions such as exploring the founding of the world's first joint-stock company, searching for securities issued during South Korea's economic development, and designing a personalized security featuring the participant's own face.

The museum is accepting applications through its website from Monday through Aug. 28, with spots filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Full details are available in the notices section of the Securities Museum Busan branch website.

The Securities Museum Busan branch is a financial museum that opened in Busan in December 2019. It was established to preserve paper securities that have become historical artifacts and to carry on the history of securities issuance. The museum currently operates exhibitions and education programs covering the origins and concepts of securities, the development of domestic and international capital markets, and the role securities have played in South Korea's economic growth.
