Kyungil University launches international interpretation volunteer corps KIU BRIDGE

Kyungil University's College of General Education launched an international interpretation volunteer corps called KIU BRIDGE on June 11 at a ceremony held in Seminar Room 18 on campus, marking the formal start of the group's language support activities in the local community.

About 50 people attended the inaugural ceremony, including Korean and international students, English faculty members from the College of General Education, and staff from the university's social contribution center.

KIU BRIDGE is notable for its collaborative model, bringing together Korean students and international students as equal participants.

Through hands-on work in the field, students build global communication skills while the surrounding community gains access to language support services — a mutual-growth model in which the university and the region develop together.

The corps had already been active in the community before its official launch.

Members took part in the Save the Children International Children's Marathon on May 16 and the Cheongdo Global Village Festival on May 24, providing guidance and interpretation for foreign participants and facilitating cultural exchange.

Prof. Kwon Ye-seul, head of the interpretation volunteer corps, said the group would continue to expand international exchange activities involving both Korean and international students, with the aim of strengthening students' global competencies and making a tangible contribution to the local community.

KIU BRIDGE is also set to serve as interpretation volunteers at the World Masters Athletics Championships Daegu 2026, scheduled for August.
