Democratic Party lawmaker criticizes Trump over unpaid UN dues

Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Seo Mi-hwa has criticized President Donald Trump for withholding US payments to the United Nations.

Seo recently posted a short-form video on her Instagram account under the title "Seo Mi-hwa lands a blow on Trump at the UN."

In the video, she opened with a pointed remark: "All of this is because of President Trump. Stop the wars and spend some money on world peace."

Seo filmed the video while attending the 19th Conference of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at UN headquarters in New York. The annual meeting reviews implementation of the convention, which the UN adopted 20 years ago this year, and discusses cooperation among member states.

"The United States was originally the largest contributor, responsible for 22 percent of the UN budget, but now the UN looks like it's about to collapse," she said, adding that she found worn-out chairs everywhere she went inside the building.

Seo has been drawing a strong response, particularly from progressive audiences, through a series of candid short-form social media videos.
