'Will do utmost to make Ulsan a safe city for residents'
Fire Commissioner Kim Yong-su took office Monday as the 20th chief of the Ulsan Fire Department.
Kim entered public service in 1992 as a firefighter and has since built broad experience spanning both field operations and policy work, having served as chief of the Jinju Fire Station, a safety and environment policy official at the Office for Government Policy Coordination, head of the response coordination division at the National Fire Agency, and chief of the Sejong Fire Department. He is particularly noted for his expertise in disaster response.
Upon taking office Monday, Kim received briefings on key pending issues and moved to review the disaster response framework, taking into account Ulsan's distinct characteristics — including its large industrial facilities, national industrial complexes and nuclear power plants.
"Protecting the lives and property of residents is the most important mission of the fire department," Kim said. "I will do my utmost to make Ulsan a safe city where people can feel at ease."
