Over 1,400 homes inspected since 2024 in partnership with Korea Electrical Safety Corporation
"Hello, this is the district mayor. We're here for an electrical safety inspection."
Jin Kyo-hoon, district mayor of Seoul's Gangseo-gu, visited households of vulnerable residents — including elderly people living alone — on Monday to check on electrical safety.
Jin, accompanied by officials from the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation's Seoul West Branch (branch director Han Jae-jin), visited an apartment in Deungchon-dong to conduct the inspection in person.
The inspection focused on electrical leakage risks, including verifying that circuit breakers were functioning properly and replacing standard power strips with safety-grade models equipped with leakage protection.
More than 20 staff members from the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation's Seoul West Branch joined Jin for the day's inspections, completing safety checks on 400 households.
The two organizations signed an MOU in 2024 on preventing electrical disasters for safety-vulnerable groups and have since conducted electrical safety inspections targeting vulnerable residents, including elderly people living alone, basic livelihood recipients and people with disabilities.
About 1,400 households have been inspected to date, with electrical equipment replacements and installations carried out for those requiring remedial action.
"Every summer, rising electricity consumption heightens concerns about electrical accidents such as leakage and short circuits," Jin said. "I am deeply grateful to the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation for joining us again this year in taking preemptive action to eliminate hazards before they occur."
