Park Chae-a declares bid for deputy speaker of North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly

Park Chae-a, chair of the Education Committee of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly, officially declared her candidacy Monday for deputy speaker in the first half of the 13th assembly term.

In her announcement, Park said she would run the assembly "with the boldness and passion of youth — carefully, but decisively — to build a strong provincial assembly worthy of its name."

She also explained her reasons for running. While local governments are taking on greater authority and provincial assemblies face expanding roles and responsibilities, the systems and environment supporting lawmakers' legislative activities remain inadequate, she said. "I will put lawmakers at the center of how the assembly operates and do my utmost to create conditions where they can focus fully on their work," she added.

To strengthen the assembly's policy development and legislative capacity, Park plans to pursue an MOU with the Gyeongbuk Research Institute, while also working to build public consensus around the introduction of a dedicated policy aide for each lawmaker.

She also plans to significantly strengthen the support system for lawmakers' legislative activities in order to build a field-oriented, productive assembly. Her key campaign pledges include introducing additional shared vehicle leases and expanding strategic communications support to address key regional issues.

"The assembly is not run by the strength of any one person — it is an institution built together by all its members," Park said. "I will be a deputy speaker who creates an assembly for every lawmaker, not for any particular individual, and who supports each member in bringing out their full potential."
