Ravi returns with new single 'Nyeok' after 4-year hiatus over military service fraud

Ravi, a rapper and former member of boy group VIXX who suspended his career over a military service fraud scandal, has made a quiet comeback with his first new music in about four years.

On Sunday, Ravi released a new digital single titled "Nyeok." The track captures the emotions and passage of time encountered in the flow of life, and is characterized by understated yet powerful rapping.

The comeback follows a lengthy absence rooted in legal trouble. In 2022, Ravi was indicted on charges of working with a military service broker to fake symptoms of epilepsy and obtain a false medical certificate to evade his mandatory military duty. A court of first instance sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for two years, along with 120 hours of community service. Prosecutors appealed, but a second court upheld the ruling.

Public sentiment turned sharply against him after it emerged that the broker had sent a text message to a co-representative reading, "Good, military exemption." Ravi stepped down from all programs he had been appearing on and voluntarily withdrew from VIXX.

He subsequently completed his service as a social service worker and was discharged on Dec. 13 last year.

In March, Ravi posted on Instagram saying he had come to realize that "a cowardly choice can hurt and harm others." He added: "I once again apologize to those who were hurt by my wrongful actions, and I will continue to learn and hold myself accountable in order to become a better person going forward."
