BTS Jungkook's 'Seven' becomes first K-pop song to hit 3 billion Spotify streams

"Seven (feat. Latto)," the debut solo single by Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, has set a new milestone in Korean pop music history.

The song has claimed a record with no precedent in Korean music: it became the first track by a Korean artist to surpass 3 billion streams on Spotify, overtaking BTS's "Dynamite" to become the most-streamed K-pop song of all time on the platform.

According to Big Hit Music and Spotify, "Seven" crossed 3 billion plays as of Tuesday, making it the highest-streaming single ever by a Korean artist. It is also the only song released in 2023 to have reached that milestone among all tracks that debuted that year.

Upon its release, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and reached No. 3 on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100, simultaneously conquering the world's two most prominent pop charts. It has also logged its 152nd consecutive week on Billboard's Global Excl. US chart, appearing at No. 120 on the latest chart dated June 20.

The song has charted every week without exception since its release in July 2023. It currently sits at No. 113 on Spotify's Weekly Top Songs Global chart.

"Seven" draws on UK garage, an electronic music genre that emerged in Britain in the early 1990s, reinterpreting the style with a polished, contemporary sensibility. Its music video, which drew wide attention for its witty direction, surpassed 600 million views on YouTube in April.

With "Seven" crossing the 3 billion mark, BTS and BLACKPINK — along with their respective solo acts — now dominate Spotify's all-time top 10 most-streamed K-pop songs.

Jungkook alone claims two spots in the top 10: "Seven" at No. 1 and "Standing Next to You," the title track from his solo album "GOLDEN," at No. 6. Two other solo releases — "3D (feat. Jack Harlow)," with approximately 1.16 billion streams, and "Left and Right," a collaboration with pop star Charlie Puth — have also joined Spotify's 1 billion streams club.

According to Kworb, which tracks cumulative Spotify streaming figures, the all-time K-pop top 10 on the platform breaks down as follows: Jungkook's "Seven" leads at No. 1, followed by Rosé and Bruno Mars's "APT." at 2.5 billion streams, Jimin's "Who" at 2.457 billion, and BTS's "Dynamite" at approximately 2.29 billion. "Golden," performed by the fictional girl group Huntrix from the Netflix series "K-Pop Demon Hunters," rounds out the top five with 1.793 billion streams.

Jungkook's "Standing Next to You" ranks sixth with 1.483 billion streams, BTS's "Butter" seventh with 1.474 billion, Jimin's "Like Crazy" eighth with 1.461 billion, Lisa's "MONEY" ninth with 1.418 billion, and BLACKPINK's "How You Like That" tenth with 1.261 billion streams.
