Daegu Rotary Club marks 88th anniversary, installs new president

Daegu Rotary Club, the first Rotary club established in the Daegu area, held its 88th anniversary ceremony and the inauguration of Oh Jun-ho as its 73rd president at Hotel Raonjena on June 22.

The event drew about 150 attendees, including Lee Jun-cheol, governor of Rotary International District 3700 and chief executive of Taeyoung Electric, presidents of the 16 sub-clubs founded by Daegu Rotary, and club members.

During the ceremony, the club presented service grants to students from Joil High School's Interact chapter, which the club sponsors, and pledged a donation to Haengbok-han Donghaeng, a public-interest social welfare organization.

During the 2025–2026 Rotary year, the club donated more than 85 million won (about $55,300) to the Rotary Foundation and awarded scholarships to eight university students and five high school students last year.

On the international service front, members took part in volunteer activities for communities in need in Vietnam and the Philippines. In Thailand, the club signed memorandums of understanding with the local Bangkoream Club and Ayutthaya Club to carry out two Global Grant projects under Rotary International's global grant program.

In addition, the club has participated in free meal service at least once a month and has donated more than 20 million won to social organizations.

Oh pledged to "build on 88 years of service to create a club that members find joyful and take pride in, expand volunteer activities that bring hope to those in need, and nurture a new generation of young leaders — all as we prepare for the next 100 years."
