Pohang mayor-elect inspects amateur baseball facility sites

Park Yong-seon, Pohang's mayor-elect, visited the Heunghae Gokgang Baseball Field and the construction site of the Yeonil Ubok community baseball field on Tuesday to inspect facility operations and project progress.

Transition committee chair Kong Won-sik, vice chair Lee Chil-gu, members of the administrative affairs subcommittee and other officials joined the site visits.

The visits were arranged amid growing demand for recreational sports to assess how existing sports facilities are being used, review the development of new ones, and shape a citizen-centered sports infrastructure policy.

Park first visited the Heunghae Gokgang Baseball Field to review its operational status and usage.

At the scene, participants noted that while expanding sports facilities is a necessary task given the growing number of recreational baseball players and demand from amateur clubs, the actual utilization rates and operational efficiency of existing facilities must also be examined.

Park then visited the Yeonil Ubok community baseball field construction site, which is approximately 50 percent complete, and received a briefing on construction progress.

"Sports facilities should not end with simply being built — they must be genuinely needed by citizens and put to proper use," Park said. "Going forward, I will continue to inspect sites firsthand, fully reflect the opinions of citizens, and pursue sports policies that citizens can feel the benefit of — maximizing utilization and budget efficiency alike."
